A Horrible Disaster

The view I saw on T.V a few months ago is unforgettable. We were sitting at home watching a movie when the newsreader suddenly appeared with a news flash,’’A strong earthquake has just struck the middle of Cairo’’. The earth, we came to learn later, started to shake violently that afternoon. Many people were then at home, others were still at work, while students were on their way back home. It was really a moment of fear for everybody. The people were scared to death as they saw everything turning upside down. Buildings, cars and trees were suddenly turned into complete wreckage. No one had the chance to escape. Sometimes later, the scene was shown up on T.V. It was unbelievable. Tens of buildings had been completely destroyed while human corpses were lying everywhere. You could see mothers and fathers crying and mouring for their dead or missing children, and children in turn looking for their parents. The authorities did their best to offer help to the injured and to thousands of homeless people. Men of the Civil Defense, Red Crescent and other humanitarian foundations arrived on the scene to help the victims. Some people were miraculously found alive under the rubble, but unfortunately a lot were found dead. Both the dead and the injured were taken to hospitals while the survivors were gathered in safe places and provided with food, clothing, blankets and medicine. In a word, it was really one of the most horrible disasters I have ever seen. I hope no one would ever face such terrible incidents again.
